Film one hundred and four

Only the people who are exposed to this enormous pressure can probably best explain how a sea rescue operation works. The documentary accompanies a sea rescue team on a real mission that is a matter of life and death. Every year, thousands of people lose their lives on the world's deadliest escape route. Civilians put themselves in danger because the European Union's border policy violates existing rights and helpers are criminalised and threatened.

In EINHUNDERTVIER, Jonathan Schörnig documents a sea rescue in real time and impressively shows the work of Mission Lifeline. He was honoured four times at DOK Leipzig 2023, including with the Golden Dove in the German Competition. Christine Schäfer from Haus des Dokumentarfilms spoke to him about the development of the film and the difficult shooting conditions at sea.
